Defense Verdict in Bowel Perforation Case

In February 2025, Louis Jakub prevailed at trial in Morris County New Jersey, defending a gynecologist who performed a dilation and curettage procedure on a 54 year-old female. Two weeks after the procedure, the plaintiff was diagnosed with a perforated sigmoid colon, peritonitis and sepsis. The patient underwent a bowel re-section and creation of a colostomy which was subsequently reversed. Plaintiff claimed permanent scarring, pain and suffering and limitations in physical and intimate activities. Mr. Jakub defended the case by attributing the perforations to known and accepted complications of properly-performed surgery. The jury agreed and returned a verdict in favor of the physician.  (Morris County Superior Court, Docket MRS-L-2241-20).
